Please note that we are due to receive our first stock of Influenza vaccines during mid-September 2021.  We will shortly be contacting patients with a view to arranging appointments to attend one of our clinics at the surgery. Therefore, if you are aged 50 or above or have a health condition that entitles you to a Flu vaccine, we will contact you by post with instructions on how to arrange your FREE vaccination with the practice.

If you have any questions in respect of the flu vaccines then please do not hesitate to contact the surgery for more information.

In view of the current situation with respect to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, we have made some changes to the way we book our Doctor appointments.

We have now moved to a full telephone triage system as we now feel this is clinically appropriate for our surgery.  This system went live from 15th July 2020.

The doctors have decided to take the most clinically appropriate decision after reviewing the current advice and having consulted with other local practices about their planned changes; ours are in line with their approach.  We will be meeting weekly to review our approach.  Please be aware that any changes we make will be temporary and we will be looking to resume our normal working practices as soon as the medical advice allows us to.

Welcome to Gower Medical Practice

The family practice in Gower had been based in Reynoldston for many years until the first purpose-built surgery was completed in 1973. Dr John Hilliard had taken over on Alan Harries’ retirement in 1983. Dr Philip Matthews joined the practice in 1988.

After more than 28 years working in Gower, Dr Mark Vernon-Roberts retired in 1999. Dr S Emma Thomas and Dr Clare Holland joined the partnership in July 1999.  Dr Catherine Wigley and Dr Stephen Hailey joined the practice as part-time partners in April 2003, replacing Dr Holland.  Dr Hilliard retired with effect from 31st March 2012 after 29 years with the practice with the remaining Partners taking on Dr Hilliard's sessional commitment. Dr Thomas left the surgery in March 2018. Dr Nicola Jones and Dr Taymour Sahami joined the surgery as Partners in July 2019 and July 2020 respectively.

We became a training practice in 1983 and moved to our new Scurlage surgery in 1988, having opened a second surgery in Pennard in 1979. In March 2007 Pennard Surgery moved from its base at The Community Centre to a brand new purpose-built surgery on the school site.
